Guiding Groups is part of our Holistic Adult Learning stream, for consultants, educators and facilitators working with adults. It is open to everyone — there is no prerequisite. Our Adult Learning modules are inspired by Coenraad van Houten (1922–2013), who described the meeting of adult educator and adult learner as a ‘co-human relationship’ — one individuality relating to another, as equals.
The course opens with core skills, practices and principles of adult learning: the path from information to wisdom, and the growth of the learner from Reactor to Witness, to Learner and to Researcher. It then turns to its main subject — creating, supporting and holding an open space. You will explore three types of group, and the three elements at work in every conversation: Content (Thinking), Interaction (Feeling) and Process (Willing). You will be introduced to the seven Archetypal Qualities related to the seven Planets, which help you assess the personality types at work in a group, read its dynamics and find ways to facilitate the process. And you will learn and practise a structured process of collegial Inter-vision — a safe way for colleagues to learn from the incidents they find most difficult. |
