A worked example of the Biographical Analysis as practised in the Training in Holistic Biography Work.
In this analysis, written in 2006, Laura Summerfield follows the life of Carl Gustav Jung (1875 – 1961) through its 21-year movements — Nature Karma, Destiny Karma, Direction Karma and the Years of Grace — tracing dreams, visions and destiny encounters through the septennials, towards the question: what was Jung’s destiny?
Laura Summerfield wrote this analysis in 2006, opening with her own connection to Jung since her psychology studies. She reads the life of Carl Gustav Jung in its 21-year movements: Nature Karma — the first 21 years of dreams, accidents, illnesses, secrets and the sense of two worlds; Destiny Karma — the second 21 years of séances, marriage, Freud, scandal and international reputation; Direction Karma — the third 21 years of the Tower, the travels to Africa and India, lectures and the Psychological Club; and the Years of Grace — the final 23 years of enforced rest, synchronicity, the C. G. Jung Institute, the deaths of Toni Wolff and Emma Jung, and the autobiography.
The closing question — what was Jung’s destiny? — draws the threads together.
