5-Doorways to Health & Healing

Michaela Glöcker has developed a unique approach to Biography Work over many years of research and practical experience.
We aim to introduce her approach to participants in our trainings, to our colleagues, and to an English-speaking audience, by organising five special events.

After each event, we document her approach in Study Guides, with direct access to her video-recorded Lectures. The 5 Parts of her approach are then available from our Web Shop.

Part 5: The Quinta Essentia – 30 Oct – 1 Nov 2026

The Quinta-Essentia in Michaela Glöckler’s Five-Star Model

In Michaela Glöckler’s Five-Star Archetype for Biography Work, the human being is approached through five aspects, each opening a doorway to health and healing. Four of them describe how we take hold of earthly existence: the Physical organisation incorporates substance, the Etheric organisation sustains growth and regeneration, the Astral organisation brings differentiation, and the I-organisation integrates and creates wholeness. At the centre stands the fifth — and it is of a different kind.

The Quinta-Essentia is no longer constitution-forming: it builds no body. It is, in Glöckler’s words, the ‘fifth being’ — the essential, the intrinsic — and it can be experienced purely in soul and spirit. The name reaches back to Aristotle’s Pemptē Ousia — in Latin Quinta-Essentia, the Fifth Essence — the aether that, unlike the four earthly elements, is not material but only spiritually comprehensible; Rudolf Steiner takes up the same term in GA227 (1923) /1 and GA35 (1908) /2. In Glöckler’s account (2020) /3 it is the metamorphosis of three body-forming activities into their free, out-of-body working as Thinking, Feeling and Willing.

This has consequences. Thoughts, feelings and intentions are not ‘nothing’ — they are realities, and they are not bound to space. In our physical bodies we are separate, each unique in our singularity; in thinking and feeling we are connected. And here Glöckler draws a distinction that is easily missed: the Quinta-Essentia concerns the true or Higher ‘I’, which is not identical with the I-organisation. The I-Organisation incarnates, is bound to the body, and forms our Lower ‘I’. The Higher ‘I’ is free of the physical — and it is there that the Five-Star Archetype is completed.

2/ GA35 (1908) In his treatment of Aristotle, Steiner holds that “it is the form which is the vital principle of things, and not matter,” and places the ‘I’ as the centre where form and matter coincide. Link
